Campaign Biography and Political Positions of Thomas McGuire
I grew up in western New York State, graduating with degrees in geology and education. This began my 30 years of teaching, publishing five books, and ending as a Science Department Chairperson. I have served on the Cave Creek Town Council for nearly two decades.
We have two married daughters who live in California and three grandchildren, including a 6-month old, and another just off to college in civil engineering.
Elaine and I moved to Cave Creek in 2000. We saw a colorful community that shared our values. The purchase of Spur Cross and establishing 50 miles of dedicated trails define Cave Creek. The potential to preserve an additional 4005 acres is a rare opportunity that I will support.
Our greatest immediate challenge is providing water security for our citizens. With the shrinking Colorado River, we anticipate a 20% reduction in our Central Arizona Project allocation that now provides 90% of our water. Taping groundwater and more efficient water treatment are important, but limited, solutions. The Harquahala project was attractive. But there are too many unknown costs, while Buckeye and Queen Creek dominate the project. Fortunately, water conservation has the potential to double Cave Creek’s water availability.
Our Town Council, working with a high quality staff, have provided important services for our citizens. I find their professional advice invaluable. Since I first joined the Council, we have established impressive financial viability, while providing first class, valley wide, fire cover, and still no need for a town property tax.
A long range objective is to define Cave Creek as a town that has its own vibrant western spirit. By demonstrating our unique and multifaceted character, we can attract new residents who will support our shared vision for Cave Creek’s future.
